Alba House – Allschwil

Starting Point
The Alba Haus in Allschwil is an architecturally demanding project that required an innovative interior design. The challenge was to realise a creative design concept using End of Life textiles, among other things. The fabrics were not only to serve as functional elements, but also play a central role in the interior design. Herzog & de Meuron planned the curtains together with CASA TESSUTI. KREN Architektur was responsible for the realisation.

Solution
The textile design of the Alba Haus is based on a precise selection of fabrics that fulfil both aesthetic and functional requirements. In the entrance area, floor-to-ceiling curtains made of red VELOS make a striking statement and welcome visitors with an inviting atmosphere. On the first floor, ACOUSTIC DIVIDER VARIO with NOISEBLOCKER and SPORT provide acoustic shielding for the event space. In addition, transparent residual materials were creatively staged – they form canopies, draperies and artistic structures that enhance the spatial effect and lend the design concept a special lightness.
A special focus is placed on the sustainable reuse of end-of-life textiles. Instead of remaining unused, they are utilised in a targeted manner in this project. This minimises waste, conserves resources and illustrates how well thought-out design and high-quality textiles can enhance rooms functionally, aesthetically and sustainably.
