Starting Point
The Archiv der Avantgarden – Egidio Marzona opens with a first festive exhibition that transforms the space into an ‘archive of dreams’. The presentation guides visitors through a labyrinth of visions, ideas and historical artefacts that serves as an office, exhibition and discursive space all in one. The architecture of the listed log cabin from the early 18th century is deliberately restaged: The contrast between white sandstone and large areas of exposed concrete lends the space a special tension. The design of the exhibition elements plays a decisive role in reinforcing this atmosphere. A well thought-out choice of materials and colours should intensify the connection between the room, the exhibits and the visitors.
Solution
Through the targeted use of colour and texture, the exhibition architecture takes on a connecting role between the space, objects and visitors and thus becomes a central component of the mediation concept. Large lengths of the red, Oddy-approved fabric UMBRIA cover the wall surfaces and the display case inlays, creating striking visual accents while protecting the exhibits at the same time. The table showcases are also fitted with this material and blend harmoniously into the overall concept.
Two curtains made of UMBRIA in yellow frame the exhibition space and bathe the entrance area in a soft light, creating the impression of permanent twilight. Despite the different colours, the uniform choice of material ensures a continuous design line. A pleated band gives the curtains additional depth, while the molleton lining emphasises the softness of the display case inserts and wall panels.
