Starting Point
A former care home on the banks of lake Toya was transformed by Kengo Kuma into a boutique hotel.
Using local cedar trees for facade and interior achieved a comfortably warm room, like a cedar forest, for the hotel guests.
Solution
Inside the hotel, the architect created a number of theatrical, yet harmonious rooms.
Using a pleated fabric turned bar and restaurant into a cave-like room with a fantastic view of the lake.
