Starting Point

“Beautiful Curtain #1” is a textile partition and part of the Lang/Baumann installation in the newly built museum of contemporary art, “FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais” (Fonds Régionaux d’Art Contemporain) in Dunkerque. The building (by architects Lacaton & Vassal) is a glass twin of the old ship building yard in this city in northern France.

Solution

Lang/Baumann designed sculpted furniture and a curtain for the museum’s cafeteria in the new building using cubic shapes: individual modular table elements with integrated benches can be assembled into a 17m table. This unit is complemented by a curtain that runs along the entire length of the room and is also based on a modular approach using individual panels.
